It can be argued that, without any doubt, humans are the most versatile race on the face of Artograch. and have the main driving force of history ever since the Kingdom of Etrand has been founded. No one knows why is the lifespan of humans so short - roughly one-tenth of that of their western neighbours - but one thing is certain: this short lifespan compells, if not forces humans to attempt to live their lives to the fullest, to excel, make the most out of their short lives, have an impact on the world, instead of spending almost all day in a shadow-providing tent or shack drinking tea and meditating. The humans of Etrand and Etrancoast are world-famous for their ambition, passion, determination and resiliance.
The average human male is 175 centimetres (69 inches, or 5 feet and 9 inches) tall, while the average human female is 165 centimetres (65 inches, or 5 feet and 5 inches) tall, however, humans possess much greater variation amongst themselves in regards to height than other races, adult humans being as tall as 215 centimetres (84 inches or 7 feet) or as short as 130 centimetres (51 inches, or 4 feet and 3 inches) not being unheard of either. With possibly the exception of the Lizardmen with the varied colours of their scale, humans are the most diverse race on Artograch, with a large variety of hair colours (black, brown, blond, red, auburn) and eye colours (brown, blue, hazel, grey, green) occouring naturally.
Phenotypes / Sub-Races
Humans are considered the most diverse out of all races on Continental Artograch. They are subdivided into six phenotypes or subraces. It is important to note, that these groups don't fully separate from one another - on their supposed boundaries, they gradually bleed into each other. In cities - melting pots that attract fortune-seekers from all over Etrand - all of these subraces blend with each other. Aristocrats typically marry for political reasons without any consideration for preserving the local phenotypes. This means that only rural people preserve the local phenotypes, but even they don't do it intentionally or consciously.
A variant of the human race, its distribution roughly corresponds to the Margraviate of Steelhelm and the northeasatern parts of the Grand County of Yeirmarc. They typically speak the Northern dialect of the Etrandish language.
The Steelhelmi are a stocky people with strong legs well-equipped for mountain-climbing. Their faces are broad, their hair tends to be dark (usually dark brown, but jet black isn't unheard of), their eyes are usually blue or brown, they are often wrongfully assumed to be fat based on the natural thickness of their faces. People often compare them to Dwarves in their relatively shortness and stockiness - even though Humans and Dwarves cannot interbreed, the comparisons are not without merit, as the Steelhelmi people have spent centuries being culturally influenced by the Dwarves. They are a warrior-culture that has a preference for seniority over primogenitures, being traditionally led by the wisest elder instead of the recently departer leader's oldest son.
A variant of the human race, its distribution roughly corresponds to the royal demesne (area around Grandfolk), the Grand County of Colbenbert, Margraviate of Switheud, Margraviate of Gusmoldenbert, Margraviate of Femben and Grand County of Werron. They typically speak the Western dialect of the Etrandish language.
While not naturally dark at birth (usually as pale as the others at birth), the harshness of the sun is difficult to escape on the open grasslands of Western Etrand, leading to members of this subrace usually being tanned or sunburned, appearing rather swarthy compared to other humans. Western Etrandish people usually have brown hair - the most frequent eye colours are green and brown, but blue also appears.
Traditionally a nomadic culture, the sedentary descendants of the old nomadic warriors still partake in many of the activities of their ancestors, such as bison-hunting on the steppes. While farmers dominate other parts of Etrand, the steppes of Western Etrand favor cattle-herders over grass-growers and orchard-keepers.
The traditional Southern Etrandish phenotype is a dark-haired, brown-eyed one with a rather long skull and thin face by human standards.
Southern Etrandish people are very conservative. Their region is still dotted by wooden castles in the age of stone fortresses, old traditions and superstitions are well-alive in the region - some even say, that even the Old Gods are lurking out there in the swampy forests.
This subrace almost extinct in its purest forms, because Souther Etrand was on the receiving end of total destruction and depopulation several times throughout Etrand's history, followed by repopulation accelerated by immigration from other regions - which is why this phenotype has gotten diluted and mixed with all the others.
A variant of the human race, its distribution roughly corresponds to the Margraviate of Shlaudorf and the Grand Counties of Brevia (its namesake) and Yestricmarc. They typically speak the Eastern dialect of the Etrandish language.
A fair-skinned people with sharp, masculine features, the Brevian phenotype contains the coveted "Prince Charming"-face, their hair is usually red or blond, their eyes are usually blue or hazel, Brevians are usually rather tall for human standards.
Brevian people are considered a brave and honourable folk that, where promises are always held, and liars are stigmatized. Brevians are known for being very good at holding onto their belongings, and are rather keen on trying to get it back if they lose it.
A fair people similar to the Brevians, the Dracfoldi too display a higher frequenty of blondism and blue eyes, but their facial features are less sharp.
Dracfoldi people are known for being stubborn and rebellious, not being content with silently enduring opression and being forced to hide their true beliefs from authorities, they are a race that seeks justice and retribution whenever they will dissatisfied.
A variant of the human race, its distribution roughly corresponds to the former Kingdom of Hulra (its namesake), and Hulra's successor-state, the Earldom of Etrancoast. They typically speak the Etrancoasti language.
A race of tall humans with fair hair and sharp feautres, the Hulrans are considered the best swimmers in Etrand, which is self-evident, given their long maritime traditions. In addition to being the race of sailors, they're also a rather conservative and rebellious people who like to hold grudges and are unwilling to let go of their habits and traditions.

Currently, 4,501,000 Humans live in the Kingdom of Etrand, making up 87.24% of the kingdom's population.
The human population of Etrand dates back to roughly 1500 BEKE when present-day Etrand - save for Southern Etrand and Northern Etrand - became a definite domain of the Proto-Elves. The Proto-Elves who settled Etrand evolved into Humans as we know them some time around 1100 BEKE. However, unlike other races, they never became sole owners of their territory, as the borders of Etrand shifted considerably throughout history.
Even though Etrand mostly became a human domain, parts of Etrand remain outside of human rule, and for a long time weren't considered parts of Etrand proper. For example, Northern Etrand - inhabited by Dwarves and Gnomes - wasn't considered part of Etrand until the late 3rd century AEKE. Southern Etrand - inhabited by Lizardmen - was gradually colonized by the Humans between 1100 BEKE and the present day. During the Great War the Etrandish colonization of Southern Etrand stopped temporarily, while it reintensified during the rule of King Tondbert I of Etrand, albeit it turned from violent colonization to largerly peaceful colonization.
Nevertheless, the northernmost and southernmost parts of Etrand are still considered in many ways peripheries of Etrand rather than core parts: Southern Etrand is often raided by Orcish raiding gangs and other tribes, the small town of Talon got sacked and destroyed twice - the South had to be re-populated and re-colonized all those times. Central Etrand and Western Etrand are considered the core territories of Etrand, the territories whose human population is considered to be the thick soup that resists the winds of change.

Currently, 135,760 Humans live on the island that happens to be occupied by the Republic of Keldorn and the Free City of Gabyr, making up making up 36.66% of the island's population. Out of them 70,000 live in Keldorn, making up 27.03% of the republic's population, while 65,760 live in Gabyr, making up 59.06% of the city-state's population.
In both states, humans have a dominant position in one way or another: in Gabyr, they are the demographical majority; while in Keldorn, despite being only the second largest gruop, they are the politically and economically dominant demographic. In many ways, their stories are the complete opposites.
The first humans were taken to the island as slaves by Gabyrian (Nereid) raiders, but soon after, human pirates also started settling in the city of Gabyr, a safe haven for pirates. During the Golden Age of Maritime Trade, piracy declined and there would be far fewer slave-raids (and all of them were aimed at Etrand), several slaves were freed, but the human population continued to grow in form of Hulran merchants settling in the city. Even though the human population grew and humans eventually overtook the native Nereids in sheer numbers, new arrivals always dropped their original language and most of their culture in favour of the Gabyrian language and customs - that is, until the fall of Hulra, after which large number of pagan refugees would arrive to Gabyr, resisting assimilation, forming their own community separate from even the pre-existing human community, speaking their own language that eventually into the language known as "Gaviúran". During the Cymbairan Wars, the human slave population grew, as a result of both Gabyrian conducting raids into Etrand and Etrancoast with the objective of getting slaves, and the Gabyrians deciding to enslave prisoners of war instead of ransoming, freeing or killing them.
It is currently debated when did humans first appear on the island outside of Gabyr - some would argue that runaway slaves, also known as maroons formed their own settlements on the island, potentially coming into conflict with the native goblin population. However, the mainstream version of history remains that the first humans appeared in Keldorn during the Expulsion of the Undead, which led to the foundation of the Republic of Keldorn. If there were ever maroon communities on the island, the Keldornish most definitely exterminated them fairly quickly. While people of all races would migrate to Keldorn with the intent of running away from the persecution of those who prefer dark over light, Keldorn's dominant demographic would always be (and still are) the humans. In fact, Keldorn's main language is Keldorni Etrandish, an offshoot of Middle Etrandish.

Currently, 20,000 Humans live in the Kingdom of Froturn, making up 0.8% of the kingdom's population. The human population of Froturn is concentrated in the capital city of Yanus and the rural areas of Northern Froturn. The Froturnish Human Community is characterized male exogamy (high rates of intermarraige with the native High Elves) and female endogamy (preference for fellow Humans) or tendency towards back-migration to Etrand or Etrancoast.
The human population of Froturn was always tiny - or rather, the number of permanent settlers was always tiny. Before Etrand was founded, it was merchants from the Kingdom of Hulra, some who may or may not have settled permanently in Froturn. After Etrand was founded, traditionally, before the Royal Academy of Grandfolk was founded, humans seeking a proper education would often go to Froturn to study at the Academy of Yanus. Even after said royal academy was founded, many would still visit Froturn, for academic reasons. The richest of noblemen from Etrand would also visit Froturn frequently for its art, baths, food and other attractions. The pious would visit several of the holy sites within Froturn.
Occasionally, workers would come from Etrand to Froturn too do some of the dirty work that High Elves are reluctant to do, but few of these would settle in the kingdom permanently.
The first time the human community of Froturn grew to a size comparable to what it has now was during the reign of King Cairbré I of Etrand, whose re-embrace of religious fundamentalism and distaste for secularism has led many people - including Humans - to migrate to Froturn. These people included converts to the Cult of Nature fearing for their lives, self-proclaimed "free-thinkers" (liberal intellectuals) looking for greener pastures, petty noblemen whose immoral lifestyle resulted in an exile from their homeland, and various other political opponents and critics of the king. Some dissidents from Etrancoast also found a new home in Froturn, the most famous of which being Frythild Shairskwynn.
During the so-called "Druidic Dictatorship" of Consul Sim'vara and Ta'ael Myrth'nddare, Etrandish farmers were hired to work on the previously unused fields in Northern Froturn, especially on the newly-built fruit orchards and vegetable gardens. These hirelings were permitted to become permanent residents of Froturn after their contracts ended, most of whom chosing to extend their contracts until their retirement. King Ivahó's rise of power did result in the decline of urban Yanus's human community, with a portion of the humans living there being descendants of dissidents who fled Cairbré's Etrand out of concern for what would happen to them because of their Naturalist faith - these were now leaving Froturn in favor of Dragoc. After this mini-exodus, Froturn's human community would simply stagnate.

Currently, 12,000 Humans live in the Kingdom of Dragoc, making up 0.91% of the kingdom's population.
Humans don't have much of a history in Dragoc - in fact, most permanent residents of the human phenotype are 4th generation at most. Humans who practice the Cult of Nature are few in numers - these few often made pilgrimages to the holy sites in Dragoc, with some falling in love with the scenery so much that they decided to stay permanently, but these were very few in numbers, and usually married local Wood Elves, breeding Half-Elven offsprings who would in turn marry Wood Elves - effectively meaning complete biological assimilation.
The first time we can actually talk about a Human community of Dragoc is in the mid-8th century, when King Cairbré I of Etrand broke with his father's proto-secularist policies and made proselytization of Titanists illegal, deporting all responsible missionaries. Some of these were Human Druids. Despite assurances of their freedom to practice their religion would be guaranteed, Naturalists living in Etrand began fearing for their lives, hence starting an exodus: most of them however went to Froturn rather than Dragoc.
The rise of power of King Ivahó of Froturn was the real turning point - despite being assured once again, that their freedom to practice their religion wouldn't be infringed upon (that only missionaries caught trying to convert Titanists would be prosecuted and punished), Naturalists living in Froturn - Humans, Half-Elves, High Elves, Wood Elves - began fearing for their safety, and many decided to migrate to Dragoc.
