Dragons are sentient airborne hexapod dinosaurs that inhabit almost the whole world, but are rather few in numbers. One might assume, that they are the most intelligent species on the world, but their body shape and reproduction speed have always prevented them in creating a civilization of their own. Being sentient creatures, dragons are perfectly capable of learning how to use magic and learning how to speak languages other than Draconic. Dragons are hexapod dinosaurs, and as such, are actually related to the Gryphons - however, while Griffins have preserved their feathers and developed avian beaks, Dragos preserved their ancestral teeth, and the feathers of the proto-Dragons evolved into scale-like scutes.

Regular Dragons

Every dragon is “born” as a Green Dragon, and later “evolves” into either Red Dragon or Golden Dragon via dropping their “outdated” "scales" (scutes) in favour of newer ones with the different colour, coinciding with the act of acquiring their newfound powers. And so it goes on….

Dragons reproduce by eggs. At the age of 20-30 the dragon’s claws are ready. At the age of 50, the dragon’s wings are ready to fly.

Every dragon is “born” to be a green dragon. When a dragon egg hatches, it is guaranteed that what comes out is always a Green Dragon. They are the weakest one of them all. They can’t breathe fire. When a Green Dragon is about 100 years old, he/she usually evolves into a Red Dragon or an Emerald Dragon. It's a very common misconception that Green Dragons will evolve into either Red Dragons or Emelard Dragons depending on their alignment (Evil Red Dragons vs Good Emelard Dragons), but it's actually purely genetical, inherited from mother for female dragons, inherited from father for male dragons.

One of the two possible branches a Green Dragon can evolve into after reaching the age of one century. They can breathe fire, and their crimson-coloured scales simply scream geared-for-offensive. They evolve into Black Dragons at the age of 400-500 years.

Black Dragons

Evolving from Red Dragons, Black Dragons possess improved fire-breathing capabilities, capable of breathing fire that is hot enough to melt steel. If Black Dragons meditate a lot in the darkness, they evolve into Shadow Dragons (and then live forever), otherwise they die at the age of 1000-1500 years.

The fastest and most quiet flyers, they possess the capability of creating black fog around themselves (which they themselves can see trough), allowing them to approach opponents strealthily.

In addition to breathing fire like Red Dragons and Black Dragons, they are also capable of spitting lava, although this requires a diet of rocks that they melt inside of their bodies to produce lava.

Emerald Dragon

Another path of evolutions dragons can take. Half of the Green Dragons evolve into Emerald Dragons instead of Red Dragons.

Instead of breathing fire, these dragons spit acid. Their scales are said to be very strong, capable of holding back even a Shadow Dragon’s fire.

At the age of 400-500 years, they evolve to Golden Dragons.

In addition to spiting acid, these dragons can also shoot thunder balls out of their mouth. If they meditate in forests and mountains, they evolve into Diamond Dragons and live forever, otherwise they die at the age of 1000-1500 years.

The upgraded variant of Golden Dragons, in addition to spiting acid and shooting thunder balls out of their mouth, they can also summon lightning strikes and tornadoes with their mind.

Undead Dragons

Bone Dragons

Products of necromancy, created by Necromancers resurrecting dead dragons that have lost everything but their bones, these dragons are mindless slaves for their masters, possessing the capabilities of flying and biting their opponents.

Dracoliches

Resembling Bone Dragons, dracoliches are what happens when a Dragon learns Dark Magic and decides to become a Lich. During the transformation ritual, all parts of their body, save for their bones are burned away - in return, they are granted eternal life and an assortment of powerful magical abilities.

Spectral Dragons

Essentially the draconic form of Spectres. Aside from the dragon form, literally everything that is written about Spectres applies to them from letter to letter. They are the enslaved spirits of dragons who left this world with unfinished business, now doing the bidding of a necromancer.
