However, many say this: jack of all trades, master of none. And this applies to Battlemages perfectly. They are not as good at Magic as someone fully devoted to Magic would be. They are not as good at martial skills as a fully devoted and dedicated Warrior would be. To combine the martial skills of a Warrior and the magical abilities of a Magician, compromises have to be made.
Unlike in the video game adaptations however, they are more than just Magicians-Warriors hybrids. They have to be exclusively Neutral, and they are known for being good at martial arts and summoning elementals.
Being a Battlemage gives a expert knowledge at the Ancient Language, master skill at a chosen weapon type, they also have two unique abilities: enchanting a weapon with an element, and battle maditation: a meditation that makes all allies calm in battle.
In the video game adaptations of the FRPG, Battlemages have nothing to do with elementals or martial arts. They are simply compromise between Warriors and Magicians. They can learn spells like Magicians, but have much lesser amount of manna. They can use all weapons and wear any type of armour up to chainmail, but have lesser amount of hitpoints that dedicated Warriors
